Playing with Mud

Instagram

During the pandemic I found a little studio in Sherman Oaks, The Pottery Studio, and they were offering classes which were completely covid safe; everyone was 6 feet apart at their wheels and required to wear masks, it was the perfect solution to getting out of the house, being around people and still being safe. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would love it so much but now, hindsight, makes perfect sense. I get to be 5 years old again! But this time playing in mud and being covered head-to-toe in clay will not get me into trouble but encouraged!

I am a horrible thrower, I freely admit. I took three classes just to try to get better but it all comes down to practice, practice, practice. We were all encouraged to keep trying, for one day it’s just going to click in. And I am sure it will but in the meantime, I was enjoying the interesting shapes that were forming when a vase would collapse or a bowl would fall in on itself. My teacher would say recycle and try again but instead, I decided to keep all of my failures and see them through. I could turn them into something else or even… become Insta “famous” with this little gem! She was chosen, completely by chance, by Ben & Jerry’s to be part of their Instagram Campaign and they named her, aptly, “The Artist”. I couldn’t be more geeked out because the only ice cream I eat is Ben & Jerry’s so I am completely honored!
